The Internal Affairs Unit of the Warren County Prosecutor's Office is charged with the responsibility of conducting all internal investigations within the prosecutor's office which may include complaints against detectives, legal staff or the support staff of this office. Investigations may be administrative or criminal in nature. A complaint may be filed by anyone, at any time, and in any manner.
The Unit ensures that the New Jersey Attorney General’s Internal Affairs Policy and Procedures are followed by all of the law enforcement agencies within the county by conducting police policy and procedure reviews of each of the police departments within the county.
The unit also oversees all internal affairs investigations from each of the county’s municipal police departments and the county Sheriff’s Office. All law enforcement agencies in Warren County maintain separate and distinct Internal Affairs Units and all complaints against officers are made to their department. The County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit may also work cooperatively with local internal affairs officers in cases where serious allegations of improper conduct are alleged against local police.
The Internal Affairs Unit also reviews all police pursuits which result in injuries to vehicle operators or bystanders. In conjunction with the Major Crimes Unit, the unit also investigates all incidents of weapon discharges by police.
Any person who feels he/she was the subject of improper conduct or action should contact a supervisor or the Internal Affairs Officer of the local law enforcement agency where the conduct is alleged to have occurred.
